CDC director Rochelle Walensky resigns, claiming the end of COVID-19 pandemic, despite risks

Dr. Rochelle Walensky, the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), has announced that she will be resigning from her position in June. In her resignation letter, Dr. Walensky cited the end of the COVID-19 pandemic as the reason for her departure. She expressed pride in her work at the CDC and noted that while she had mixed feelings about leaving, the end of pandemic-related emergency declarations was an appropriate time to step down. President Biden has not yet named a replacement for Dr. Walensky, who had no prior experience leading a government health agency before assuming her role at the CDC.

The move has seen a fair share of criticism from Republicans, but almost nothing from democrats, be they politicians or common people. This despite democrats previously pushing harshly against Covid 19, and fighting significantly for protections amidst the Covid 19 pandemic. The pandemic is clearly not necessarily over, as it may return especially come the upcoming winter season in half a years’ time from now. Despite this, democrats have still hypocritically decided not to condemn the move, nor what the announcement actually implies about the Covid 19 pandemic.
