Florida Governor grants board power to void Disney deals, and republicans hypocritically refuse to criticize

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a new bill into law that grants a board he controls the power to cancel development agreements previously signed between Disney and a predecessor body. This latest move is the result of an ongoing feud between the conservative governor and the entertainment giant. The new law allows the Central Tourism Oversight District Board - whose members are appointed by DeSantis - to cancel any deals signed up to three months before the board's creation. The bill passed the Republican-controlled legislature largely along party lines. Governor DeSantis accused Disney of being arrogant in thinking that they could subcontract around the state's laws and noted that the new legislation was not a result of anything he had done, but rather a response to Disney's behavior.

In reality, this is simply the latest in Ron Desantis’s attacks on Disney. While Rons attacks originally seemingly were out of a move to win political points, he seemingly is all in now, as if he backs out, republicans would be likely to think of him as a weaker potential presidental candidate. Despite this, Republicans have refused to criticize Ron Desantis’s affronts against Disney, despite traditional republican views holding that the government should typically stay out of private affairs.
