Governor Abbot faces new criticism in wake of mass murders in Texas, republicans refuse to criticize themselves however
As many in the nation are aware, there has been a recent string of mass murders within the state of Texas. Much of the blame lays at Governor Abbot and the legions of conservatives that vote him in and refuse to criticize him. A part of the reasoning as to why these shootings continue is believed to be that access to mental health has gone significantly down.
As Governor Abbot has stated, “One thing that we can observe very easily is that there has been a dramatic increase in the amount of anger and violence that’s taking place in America,” Abbott said recently on “Fox News Sunday.” “And what Texas is doing, in a big-time way, we’re working to address that anger and violence by going to its root cause, which is addressing the mental health crisis behind it.”
Mental Health America analyzed data in 2022 and ranked Texas as the worst state in the country in terms of providing access to mental health care. This is a disheartening and shameful statistic, but it is not entirely unexpected given that Governor Abbott has reduced the funding for the department responsible for managing mental health programs in Texas by $211 million. This cut in funding may have contributed to the lack of access to mental health care in Texas, which is a significant concern.
As always, despite the unimaginably massive amount of hypocrisy attached, Republicans in general have staunchly refused to criticize Governor Abbot nor absolutely any part of his states process, despite the lies and acts against common sense
