Downtown San Francisco Target Store Plagued by Rampant Thefts, Experiencing Up to One Theft Every 10 Minutes, and at Least 10 a Day

Employees at a Target store in downtown San Francisco have report that the store experiences a bare minimum of 10 thefts per day. The items stolen range from cereal to nail polish and aluminum foil, and a great many other items, and occur regularly throughout the day. These thefts are so frequent that some workers have observed an incident happening as often as every 10 minutes. The employees spoke anonymously because they did not have permission from their supervisors to speak to the media.

This news comes amidst the closure of two nearby Nordstrom stores, due to "unsafe conditions," and the recent announcement of the shutdown of a Whole Foods store at Market and Eighth streets. The workers' observations indicate that theft is a major issue in the area, and one that may be impacting retail businesses' ability to operate profitably.

An anonymous worker at a Target store in downtown San Francisco expressed sadness at the sight of people stealing essential items, such as diapers, for their children. The worker added that they regularly observe individuals who appear to be homeless taking food, particularly cereal, and sometimes consuming it in the store. Another employee reported finding empty candy bar wrappers, soda cans, and even liquor bottles around the store approximately five times a day. Despite this, the worker expressed sympathy, saying that they understand the need for individuals to eat.

These observations provide further insight into the ongoing issue of theft in the area, particularly among those who are struggling to meet their basic needs. It highlights the challenging circumstances that many people in the community are facing, and the measures they may take to survive.
